I tried listening. Is it really silent in nature? In the morning, as I listened more closely, I heard the sounds of:
The goldfinches sweet singing
The light breeze gently rustling the leaves
One of our cows mooing in the distance
Perhaps it is more silent at night. At 10pm, the frogs were singing, loudly and persistently. Are they happy summer is here? I like to hear frogs singing. It seems so exuberant and joyful.
So far, I have not heard total silence in nature the last few days, although there must be silent times during the middle of the night. I know there is a quiet hush in the winter, after the snow blankets the earth. But it really doesn’t matter. The summer sounds of nature right now are joyful. They bring me a sense of peace, and hope. If the birds and frogs are so happy they are singing, life must be good. So, silent or not, time in nature is nurturing for my soul.
What are your favorite times in nature? The silent times, the times with sounds? It is interesting to just tune in a little closer. Enjoy whatever nature bring you!
Oh, and this quote was a prompt from the amazing creative writing e-course I am taking, Invincible Summer.
