Life Lessons I learn from photography…It matters where you focus. Ok, this seems obvious in photography. In the photo on the left, I was focusing on the garden bunny statue. In the photo on the right, the focus in on the flowers. The focus draws our attention. But sometimes this is not so obvious in life. At least to me.
Over the last few months I have put on weight. There was graduation, moving back home, baking comfort food, etc. All the weight I had so diligently lost, came right back on. Sigh. So I have been focusing on “weight loss”. But when I stop to think about it, this focuses on “weight”…which is opposite to what I want more of. And “loss”. Well, I have experienced enough real loss in the last few years. I don’t need more loss.

One of my yoga instructors used to have us form an intention at the beginning of class using this format.
“I am now moving towards ______, and I am so grateful.” Time for a new approach, a different focus. Here are my new intentions, instead of weight loss.
“I am now moving towards lightness and vitality, and I am so grateful. “
“I am now moving towards eating vibrant, healthy foods that nourish my body, and I am so grateful.”
Ahh, feels much more gentle and supportive. I am shifting my focus. Have you tried this type of approach? Has it worked? Would you like to try it with me, and see what happens?

Blessings to you!

Nancy I never looked at the issue of weight loss this way. It makes so much sense what we think about is what we attract. I have been part of an EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique tapping) group online the last few weeks about weight loss to help me lose a few pounds and clear what is in the way so I can achieve this easier. I am going to take some of your affirmations and turn them into tapping examples for me. Thank you.
Hi Suzanne. EFT sounds like a great tool too. I just experienced that with a friend of mine. I hadn’t thought about it using it for weight, health issues. Thanks for sharing that idea! Blessings,Nancy
So good! I had lost 35 lbs, and then in October I opened my business and January my mother passed away. Regained 10 lbs and a colleague pointed out that I did not want to “lose weight.” Why? Because what is lost wants to be found, or re-found, she said. Whoa… Now? I’m RELEASING it. Your focus post is so right on!
